As some of you may already know, a new michelin star restaurant has opened its doors here in Singapore a couple of months back. Yeap you guessed it right, its Tim Ho Wan. This is rated as the cheapest one-michelin star restaurant yet! Now if you weren’t around to witness the grand opening, let me fill you in. Oh man, the queue was insane! Like literally! The line was in spirals and it extended all the way to the outside of the restaurant (no i’m not exaggerating).
As much as i love food and i would always want to try new types of food whenever i could, i couldn’t be bothered to wait in line just to taste it. I could have just starve to death in that line! Hahahaha….. The main reason for the long queue was probably because of the limited seating space inside of the restaurant itself. I think the maximum capacity of the place at one time is about 100pax. So yeah…..
Now that the big fuss was gone and everyone had their try, i also got mine with my friends (3 of us). Even though the queue wasn’t as excessive as the picture on top, we still have to wait in line for about 45-60 minutes. But oh well, for food we will! 😛
There wasn’t a wide array of menus to choose from however it was sufficient. The menu range from the normal congee, chee cheong fun, ha kao, siu mai, lo mai gai (steamed glutinuous rice in lotus leaf) and the typical menus you’ll find in any other dim sum house. You’ll probably understand better with the aids of pictures. So let’s begin!
Here we have the century egg congee. To me it was just normal congee. But maybe it was also because i was never really a big congee fan. 😛
This is the Lo Mai Gai. To me it was quite flavorful. The aroma was there, filling was generous and definitely yummy.
They had two types of chee cheong fun. And sure enough we ordered both. This one was filled with char siew.
And this one was filled with yummy fresh shrimps! The amount given was very generous. You can really feel the shrimp in every bite!
The carrot cake in my opinion was a little bit disappointing. The flavor wasn’t there, and it tasted like it was still quite uncooked.
If you love ha kao, siu mai and shrimps. Please please be sure to order these! You will NOT be disappointed. I was seriously blown away. It was so delicious. Probably one of the best i ever tasted. No joke. Did i mention that you can really taste the fresh, sweet and crispy shrimp?
Osmanthus Jelly. It was my first time to ever taste it. So im not so sure how its supposed to taste like. But i liked it. That’s all i know. LOL
And finally, the main star, the signature dish of the restaurant. Other restaurant have their pao steamed but at tim ho wan, they bake it. Yeah! baked. So you get this beautiful golden brown and crispy crust and center filled with char siew. I went there twice. The first time i ate it, the filling was very sweet! So sweet that it just might be a dessert. The second time around, it was savory and hence my confusion arises. If anyone ever tried it, please help me clear up my dilemma.
Well, that’s the end of this post. Bye and take care! 🙂 see y’all in the next post.
